About
Our mission
Chess Puzzle Trainer is built on a simple idea: tactical training should be free, focused, and available to everyone — whether you just learned how the pieces move or you're sharpening your game for tournament play.
Every puzzle comes from a real game, analyzed and rated by difficulty so you're always working at the right level. As you solve, your personal rating adjusts to match your skill, and the puzzles you see can grow with you.
We currently have over 6 million puzzles in our database, spanning every rating band and tactical theme — so you'll rarely, if ever, see the same position twice. After solving (or revealing the solution to) any puzzle, you can also get a free AI-generated explanation breaking down the exact tactical idea behind it.
The puzzles
Our puzzle database is sourced from Lichess, the free and open-source chess server. Lichess generously makes their entire puzzle collection available under the Creative Commons CC0 license. Each puzzle was generated from real games and verified with the Stockfish engine to ensure every solution is sound.
How it works
- Browse puzzles by difficulty rating or tactical theme — forks, pins, mates, and more.
- Each puzzle has its own page you can bookmark or share with a friend.
- Create a free account to track your progress, count your solves, and build a personal rating.
- Your rating moves up when you solve and down when you don't — just like a real chess rating.
